What's New for the 2019 Honda Passport?
The 2019 model year reintroduces the Honda Passport after being absent for almost two decades. This time, it's not a traditional midsize SUV; it's a crossover, thus possessing the main attributes of an SUV and midsize sedan. With a combination of spaciousness, all-weather driving performance, and a remarkable level of fuel efficiency, the 2019 Passport is slotted between the compact-classified CR-V and the three-row Honda Pilot. Four Passport trims are available: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Under the hood of the Passport is a 3.5-liter V6 that provides 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with the option of going with the Intelligent Variable Torque Management all-wheel-drive system to optimize performance on less-than-ideal terrain. The 2019 Passport provides two rows of seats to accommodate up to five people. Although the crossover SUV already has 41.2 cubic feet of standard cargo space, the 60/40 split-folding second-row seats can be folded completely flat to expand the cargo space to 77.9 cubic feet. In addition, the Passport has an underfloor storage area divided in plastic bins. In the front, there's an 8-way power driver seat with lumbar support.
If you go with any trim above the base-level Sport, Honda upgrades the Passport with leather seat trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front-seat heating ability, and power adjustability on the front passenger seat. For comfort and convenience, the Passport starts off with features that include a 7-inch TFT multi-information screen, tri-zone automatic climate control, a 5-inch LCD screen, two USB ports for hooking up portable media devices, and a six-speaker stereo system. Upgrades at the EX-L trim include a sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen and Android Autoâ„¢1 and Apple CarPlayâ„¢2 for smartphone integration. At the Touring and Elite trim levels, Honda upgrades the crossover SUV with 10 speakers (instead of six), a Wi-Fi hotspot, and 8-inch touchscreen navigation.
Safety
Standard safety features on the 2019 Honda Passport include an airbag system, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, vehicle stability assist, traction control, a multi-angle rearview camera, daytime running lights, automatic high beams, and a theft-deterrent system. Also standard is the Honda Sensing® driver-assist technology suite, which provides adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, forward collision braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and road departure mitigation, and collision mitigation braking. Honda adds a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert on all trims above the Sport trim.
