Among the many small crossover SUVs on the market today, the Honda CR-V and the Mazda CX-5 are often at the top of shoppers' lists. The CR-V has maintained its extensive appeal across six generations and several decades. The Mazda CX-5 is now in its second generation and is comparably priced to the CR-V. What should you be aware of about the 2025 CR-V and the 2025 CX-5 before finalizing your crossover SUV selection?
Performance
These models are both available with two engine options. The 2025 CR-V's entry-level engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder system that produces 190 horsepower. For improved gas efficiency, this Honda model is also offered with a hybrid four-cylinder powertrain, and it delivers 204 horsepower. The 2025 CX-5 is not available with a hybrid engine. It has a flat four-cylinder unit that generates 187 horsepower and a turbocharged variant that puts out 227 horsepower.
Appearance
The CR-V benefited from a design refresh in 2023 when its latest generation debuted, and this look is both confident and easy on the eyes. Its tall cabin supports ample headroom and cargo space. The sides are subtly angled with lightly flared rear haunches and a raised black band of molding. The front end is styled with a modern variation of Honda's hexagon-shaped grille. Both the slender air vents and the LED headlights are angled for a sporty touch. The CX-5 is characterized by Mazda's strong body language, which includes the same rolling hood, smoothly accented sides, and wide grille as you will find on other Mazda models. The model is among the smallest in the Mazda lineup, and it has a strong slope across the hood and narrow headlights.
Features
The 2025 CX-5 has standard features in most trim levels like heated front seats, a two-zone climate control system, a six-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless entry, synthetic leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot system, and a few others. The 2025 Honda CR-V is available with these features as well as a navigation system, a Bose premium sound system, a hands-free liftgate, low-speed auto braking, wireless smartphone app connectivity, leather upholstery, and more.
